Becerra Appointed

City Council appointed Mirtha Becerra at their meeting on November 6, 2017.  She will take the official oath of office on November 7, 2017, and begin serving immediately.

About the Appointment

Ward 2 City Council member, Ruth Ann Swaney, has announced her intent to resign from City Council which will be effective upon the naming and swearing in of her successor.
  • The appointee will serve until the first Monday in January 2020 when a successor who is elected and qualified in the general 2019 municipal election assumes office.
  • The position will be open for nomination and election in the 2019 municipal election.

Applicant Interviews

The City Council selected eight applicants to interview at their October 23rd meeting.  Applicants will interview with the City Council's Committee of the Whole at meetings scheduled for October 25 and November 1st. in City Council Chambers at 140 W. Pine Street.  Applicant responses to written interview questions must be e-mailed to the City Clerk by November 2nd at 5:00 p.m. Late responses will not be considered.  Responses to those questions will be posted here as well as links to each interview, once completed.

About the Position
The City Council is the policy making body of the City of Missoula. 

In order to be eligible for the office, applicants must be: 

  • a U.S. citizen,
  • a citizen of the State of Montana,
  • a resident in Ward 2 60 days prior to appointment,
  • a qualified elector registered and eligible to vote under state law, and
  • at least 18 years of age.
The position currently pays $1,249.23 per month plus City benefits.
