 National Public Lands Day Site Information and Meeting Locations

September 22nd, 20079:30AM-1:30PM

Site #1. Mount Jumbo: This site will be located on the southern face of Mt. Jumbo.  There will be a 1/4 mile hike from the trailhead to the clean-up location.  The main focus at the Mount Jumbo site will be Toadflax removal.  We will be meeting at the Cherry St. Trailhead.

Site #2. Tower Street Park: The Tower Street site will include major debris removal, to include:  rusted cars, cement slabs, and other large debris.  This site will require heavy lifting and shuttling of wheel barrows. It is important to know your strength ability when selecting to volunteer at this location.  Please meet at the parking lot at the end of Tower St., off of 3rd St.  South side of the river.  Please wear appropriate footwear.

Site #3. Playfair Park: This site will include litter removal and weed pulling. Please meet in the Splash Montana parking lot on the south end.

Site #4. Jacobs Island: The Jacobs Island Dog Park needs help removing dog feces and other garbage left behind. Join the Humane Society of Western Montana to help make a cleaner, healthier park for your dog to play in.  Please meet at the Dog Park entrance on the island.

Site #5. Kim Williams Trail East:  Throughout the summer the Missoula Parks and Recreation Conservation team has been cleaning up debris left behind in the vagrant camps along the river bank. Your duties will include: removing the garbage not yet collected.  Please meet at the trailhead to the Kim Williams trail (By the stadium)

Site #6.  Mount Sentinel:  The Mount Sentinel site will involve litter, weed, and dog feces removal along the "M" trail.  Please meet in the parking lot for the "M".

Site #7.  River Trail (North side):  This site will include litter removal between Orange St. and the Madison foot bridge on the north side of the river trail.  Please meet at the parking lot on the SW corner of Orange and Front St.

Site #8.  River Trail (South side):  This site will include litter removal between McCormick Park and the Madison foot bridge on the south side of the river trail.  Please meet by the bathrooms on the east side of the McCormick Park parking lot.

Site #9. Greenough Park: This site will focus on litter removal from Greenough Park and the Rattlesnake creek.  Also, there will also be some Knapweed removal.  Please meet at the N. Greenough Park entrance on Monroe St., by the picnic shelter.

Site #10:  Moon-Randolph Homestead:  This site will include: whitewashing a chicken coop and some other farm duties.  There are a limited number of spots available to help out, so if you're interested please sign up in advance with the Parks Dept.  Please meet at the Moon-Randolph Homestead entrance.  You will have to walk into the homestead from the parking lot.  For more info. on the homestead please go to: http://www.nmcdc.org/images/jpeg/mrhbigmap.jpgrhbigmap.jpg
