Team Building and Personal Development

September and October are great months to bring your group to the Teams and Ropes Course!

Tired of sitting through boring seminars on team building and communication? Try our dynamic and interactive Challenge Course—a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity which consists of high and/or low elements.

Low Elements Course

Low ropes courses consist of a series of real and imaginary obstacles designed to challenge groups and individuals to work together to accomplish a task. Cooperative Games, Socialization Activities, Ice-Breakers: fun activities designed to reduce inhibitions and break down barriers.

Group Initiative: problems involving real and imaginary ground-based obstacles (either natural or constructed) that challenge a group to pool their resources and work together to find solutions.

Trust Activity: activities designed to provide members the opportunity to demonstrate their trust in other members of the group through a series of sequenced actions.

Low Ropes Elements: a series of cables, ropes, and obstacles strung between trees or poles, 12 to 18 inches above the ground.  Low rope elements present tests of physical strength, stamina, agility, balance, and flexibility, and invite participants to confront such emotional issues as the fear of falling, the fear of failure, and the fear of losing control. Risk is managed by group members who assume critical spotting roles.

High Ropes Course

Our High Ropes Course is a chance to take on new challenges in a safe, fun environment. Facing “elements” like the Boardwalk and Wild Woosey while thirty feet off the ground is an exhilarating way to push through your fears to a new level of self-confidence and performance. Ropes course participants often come away saying, “I feel like I can do anything now!” The High Ropes Course will be a challenging day of fun and excitement.

Our facilitators are highly trained and will adapt each course to your group’s goals and objectives. Both youth and adults, gains something from the Challenge Course. Fees vary and are dependent on group size and number of hours of training desired. CALL 552-6271 to arrange a time for your group and also to discuss program options.

Symptoms of Dehydration and Heat Illness in Children

From webmd.com http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/87/99468.htm

Children are more prone to heat illness than adults because they have more body surface area per pound of weight. Young athletes, practicing hard in summer heat, are at particular risk. Learn to recognize the early warning signs of heat stress. Your knowledge could save a child's life.

Symptoms of Dehydration

·        Thirst

·        Fatigue

·        Irritability

·        Dry mouth

·        Feeling hot

When children complain of thirst, feeling hot, or just seem irritable in the heat, they may have early dehydration. Get the child out of the sun into a cool, comfortable place. Have the child start drinking plenty of cool fluids such as water or sports drinks. (Sugary fruit juices or sodas with more than 8% carbohydrates are not absorbed as rapidly by the body.) The child should also take off any excess layers of clothing or bulky sports equipment. You can put cool, wet cloths on overheated skin.

If these symptoms are ignored, more serious heat illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke can occur.
