New Community Track and Field Facilities

Parks and Recreation and Missoula County Public Schools have teamed up to upgrade the track and field facilities at John Toole Park for students at Hellgate High School and the community at large.

Phase One

MCPS completed Phase One of the Hellgate Track project in 2012. This phase included practice areas for shot-put, discus and pole vault, safety fencing and barriers to protect adjacent trail users, and an on-site storage facility.

Phrase Two

Hellgate High School math teacher and track coach Alan Pfister is leading fund-raising efforts for Phase Two; a six-lane, all-weather track surface made from recycled rubber. Pfister says the goal is to begin Phase Two construction in 2013.

Since 1983, the city and MCPS have shared a joint-use agreement for the park ,which is located at 202 South Fourth East, on the south shore of the Clark Fork River. Hellgate High students use the park for football and track practice, as well as physical education classes.
